Life Transitions Therapy in Bedford, NY

Wish You Were Enjoying Your Life More?

Are you having trouble with life’s big changes?

Do you feel a general sense of anxiety or unease?

Maybe you have a new partner, child, or career opportunity—but you just don’t feel able to enjoy it. Transitions can be difficult, and even happy change can be challenging.

I work with many clients embarking on ambitious plans, lifelong dreams, or who are charting a new path. And yet, they wonder why they feel sad, lonely, and disconnected. Worry seems to have taken over, causing panic and, in some cases, physical pain and discomfort. Sometimes their relationships are the hardest hit, as differing expectations yield conflict and resentment.

Does Any Of This Sound Familiar To You?

Therapy offers you space to explore life’s changes and transitions openly and honestly. As you get curious about your fears and anxieties in the supportive presence of a therapist, you can learn how to navigate transitions both big and small with skills you can use for life. Working together, we can create a more ideal outlook and way of being.

There Are No “Wrong Reasons” To Seek Support

You do not need to be in acute pain or crisis to benefit from therapy. While counseling is no doubt a meaningful step to take when changes and transitions become overwhelming or, in some cases, traumatic, there is always a use for life skills that nurture healing and resilience.

A lot of the clients I work with in therapy are adjusting to a new circumstance or identity. They’re at a crossroads—in their relationships, in their careers, in their families—and they’re having a hard time figuring out how to embrace what’s next.

Discovering the source of distress is the first step to relief, as support from an unbiased professional offers a sounding board for meaningfully working through your options and what life looks like on the other side of change. Through this process, you can find new connections and a sense of community to sustain you through your transition.

Therapy Gives You The Tools To Move Through Life Transitions With Ease

I work with individuals and couples from a wide array of backgrounds in therapy. My services are well-suited to adults facing common challenges like loss, anxiety, and relationship challenges, but some of the more specific issues I work with in life transitions therapy are:

  • Welcomed changes such as becoming a new parent, getting a promotion, or taking a “big” step in your relationship like getting married or moving in together

  • Identity-specific transitions, often related to sexuality and gender

  • Stressors involving the “sandwich” era of life (i.e., caring for aging parents and/or growing kids)

  • Sobriety following addiction or substance use

  • Couples experiencing conflict and disconnection

My Approach

Pain is there to alert us to the areas of life that need our attention—which is why this process starts wherever you are. You are the expert on what’s happening, and my role as a therapist is to help you discover the source of your symptoms and a remedy to the stress being created by your unique life transition. Using the therapeutic relationship, we will challenge old ways of thinking and form new habits that will sustain your mental, emotional, and relational health both now and in the future.

Psychoeducation is an important aspect of my work, normalizing your experience and helping you understand why it’s impacting you in this way. I also introduce solution-focused skills to help you feel grounded and less bogged down by self-limiting beliefs and behaviors. For couples in transition, therapy centers around examining patterns and creating a new dynamic that will allow you to manage life changes together.

What they say is true: the only predictable part of life is change. If you feel “off” or experience unexplained symptoms, you may just need new tools for navigating the transitions of life more smoothly—and that’s what therapy can provide. Through this process, you can find relief and learn to embrace transformation.
